We have practiced and rehearsed the same thoughts that keep us in the drinking habit.
“This is just what I do.”
“I just want a drink.”
“This is a habit.”
“This will help me relax.”
These are all just stories we tell ourselves.
These same stories keep us doing the same action of drinking.
What if you dropped the story?
Drop all the stories and then the drink becomes meaningless.
And saying no becomes easier.
When you are willing to drop the story, you can begin the work of breaking the patterned drinking habit.
If you keep the story, then willpower is required.
And deprivation is felt.
Not a recipe for lasting change.
