Being Future Focused

Many of us have pasts that are full of pain and negative circumstances.  We feel we’ve had some failures or have been through challenging experiences.  When we define ourselves and our future abilities by these past attempts, we limit our true potential and become discouraged and filled with regret.  What if you had a different perspective – that is – what if your past was all meant to be that way and it was perfect?

There is no upside to spending tremendous emotional energy focusing on your past.  It’s a waste of precious time.  And it prevents you from taking new action in the present to alter your future. The present is all you have to make changes.  The truth is, you can’t go back.  It’s over – for good. But the future is yours for the taking.

What do you want for your future?

There is no upside to spending tremendous emotional energy focusing on your past. It’s a waste of precious time.

Many times, if you ask a past focused person what their plans are for the future, they have no idea where they are going.  They are still defining themselves by who they used to be without taking any control of who they want to be.  They live the same day over and over making no progress toward their goals.

You are past focused if you have said things like “This is a struggle I have dealt with my whole life,” “This is just how I am,” “I am not that kind of person who can do that.” While it is important to learn from our past and grow from the mistakes you have made, it’s not about defining yourself by what you haven’t been able to accomplish yet.  You are dynamic, even your personality can change.

Say good-bye to the past you.  Who are you learning to become?  Let’s get excited about this future person.

Are you in on the new you?
